Social/Community Development Expert, Lesotho 

ACDI/VOCA is seeking a Social/Community Development Expert for an anticipated program in Lesotho funded by Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). 

The Social/Community Development Expert will work across the program’s technical sectors to advance women and youth considerations at the production, processing, and marketing levels of interventions. The program is anticipated to start in 2023 and this position is based in Lesotho. 

Responsibilities
  • Achieve activity goals and objectives in line with annual plans by providing technical advice and direction to the activity team 
  • Ensure technical interventions are integrated, layered, and sequenced appropriately at all levels of implementation within the activity 
  • Ensure achievement of learning objectives and use results to adapt program design as needed 
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of reports and documents to MCC, national governments, ACDI/VOCA home office, and partner organizations 
  • Lead methods to build the confidence and capacity of local communities to monitor and participate in the management of the natural assets and ecosystems they thrive on  
  • Manage capacity building initiatives with partners and stakeholder communities 
  • Develop and implement a gender and youth participation strategy  
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology, gender, agriculture, economics, business administration, international development, or relevant field required; master’s degree preferred. 
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience in international development, preferably in a horticulture, agricultural or market systems context. 
  • Knowledge of proven approaches and best practices for integrating women, youth, ethnic minorities and other disadvantaged populations into agriculture and economic growth programs. 
  • Demonstrated success strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities through improved livelihoods, climate change adaptation, social behavior change, social capital, preferably through an integrated approach. 
  • Experience working in Lesotho preferred. 
  • Fluency in English required
