Description
  • Lead efforts to develop, propose, and implement complex research techniques and procedures for the analysis of environmental systems and food systems with a focus on ecological boundaries and footprints of food systems in Kenya (e.g., GHG emissions, life cycle analyses).
  • Lead efforts coordinating research teams in the design, the research, and the implementation of techniques for modeling the environmental sustainability and resilience of food systems in Kenya.
  • Review publications for their inclusion into the GHG database and collect information on the agricultural sector, to prepare articles and research reports.
  • Contribute to the development of a GHG database for Kenya achieved by the project, under the supervisor’s guidance.
  • Collect, analyze and summarize a broad range of GHG-related data that contribute to climate mitigation action plans of Kenya and other target countries
  • Conduct regular field visits to supervise data collection and follow-up with partners;
  • Participate in the publication of research results through annual reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Participate in special projects with other research institutions and international organizations.
  • Coordinate efforts to raise awareness about project activities, products, and outcomes among stakeholders, partners, policymakers, and the general public.
  • Assisting in monitoring and evaluation and reporting efforts by providing quality input and reports in a timely manner (as indicated by project lead and supervisor).
  • Assist with organizing workshops, meetings and monitoring tours
  • Establish and maintain contacts with relevant stakeholders
  • Perform any other official duties assigned by supervisor
  • Be a member of MITIGATE+ Kenya team
Qualifications
  • Minimum of MSc in Agriculture with a major in agronomy, environmental sciences or a related field
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant administrative and operating protocols and policies required for the position
  • At least 2 years’ experience in agricultural and/or environmental research

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Kenya’s food systems
  • Familiarity with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions research area
  • Data handling and knowledge of statistical software such as R are essential.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Ability to communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in the English language.
  • Good interpersonal and social skills
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team.
