One Acre Fund is a nonprofit social enterprise that fights chronic hunger and extreme poverty among vulnerable farming communities. Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund provides smallholder farmers with the necessary agricultural services to significantly increase their farm productivity. We provide quality agricultural products, closer to villages, as well as financial solutions and training on good agricultural practices. We measure our success by our ability to make farmers more prosperous: on average, farmers harvest 50% more agricultural products after participating in One Acre Fund activities.
About the Role
One Acre Fund is recruiting an Operations Associate to join a small and growing team evaluating the possibility of launching an innovative program in the DRC that aims to reduce deforestation while improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. This position offers an opportunity to be exposed to a growing social enterprise and the opportunity to learn and support a specialized unit in setting up new social enterprises. This position is ideal for candidates with an aptitude for setting up rigorous systems and processes and with experience in logistics or operations. The Operations Associate will report to the Expansion Lead for DRC.
- Identify and evaluate suppliers and partners for future and immediate program needs
- Manage small or medium-scale field trials, from design to data collection and interpretation.
- Establish systems and procedures tailored to a new national program and new operational environment
- Coordinate with IT teams to identify technology solutions appropriate for the program's needs
- Lead end-to-end procurement processes following One Acre Fund procurement guidelines, negotiate prices and terms, and ensure timely delivery of goods.
- Identify sites, storage spaces, assess the quality of available infrastructure, and negotiate lease agreements.
Below are the general qualifications we look for in any position within the organization. Candidates who meet the majority of the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
- Professional experience of more than 3-5 years, ideally in operations, logistics, supply chain, or candidates who have demonstrated an ability to solve complex and ambiguous problems in a structured manner.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field
- Project management experience required - you know how to develop a clear and easily digestible project plan and implement it.
- Language: fluency in French and conversational English is required for this position. Knowledge of Lingala or Kikongo is an additional asset.
- Sense of adventure: One Acre Fund's program expansion team members travel extensively and go to places where programs have not yet been established. A positive attitude and a general willingness to take on new challenges are essential.
